After two days of no sailing due to the big breeze, racing finally got underway today in Porto Cervo.

A breezy week seems to be in prospect for competitors at this year’s Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup which starts on Monday out of Porto Cervo, Sardinia.

In one month’s time J Class yachts will enjoy a welcome return to the America’s Cup spotlight when four stunning examples – Shamrock V, Velsheda, Rainbow and Svea – muster in Barcelona during the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup to race at the J Class Barcelona Regatta.

With a carefully crafted victory in today’s final 25 nautical mile coastal race, the Swedish flagged Svea won the J Class at The Superyacht Cup Palma.

Velsheda proved they are still very much a force to be reckoned with when they won a hard fought 26 miles coastal race at The Superyacht Cup Palma today.

Swedish-flagged Svea may have claimed victory in the first two windward-leeward races at The Superyacht Cup Palma, but the spotlight today undoubtedly shone on Rainbow – now owned by Neville Crichton – which made its racing return after a near ten-year hiatus.

Rainbow returns to J Class competition next week at The Superyacht Cup Palma, some ten years since the highly potent replica of the 1934 America’s Cup winner last sailed a race.
